Conservation and Reforestation Of Lanna Big Trees for Mitigating Smog and Heat Dome in Chiang Mai City
? Objectives:
a) To develop ability and encourage corporation within community group, local government organization, civil local organization in protecting big trees and green space in Chiangmai
b) To protect and conserve big tree and grow green space to absorb carbon dioxide gas, including reduce smoke and problem from Chiangmai heat dome
c) To encourage ideology in managing knowledge, media, campaigning, and public relation
? Beneficial: 375 households
? Target area:
There are two focus areas. The first area is in Son-pak-whan subdistrict, Hang-dong district in Chiangmai province. It is a low-land area located near Ping river. The second area is called Sarapee subdistrict, Sarapee district in Chiangmai province. It is also a low-land area with 5,640 rai.
? Proposed activities:
a. Activity to strengthen community?s ability
i. Meeting and prepare the project with stakeholders
ii. Training on how to preserve trees and forest plantation for the city, train people to be Tree doctor volunteer in community level
iii. Youth camp in preserving Lanna big tree Exchange knowledge on preserving trees and develop city?s green space with Chiangmai green suay hom network and Mae Jo University.
b. Demonstration/Operation
i. Support local tree sprout plantation by using the product of big trees and city?s trees to expand green space and fundraising in the community
ii. Support fermented fertilizer making from tree leaves and biomass management
iii. Support in developing product packaging and processed food and herbs in green area to create incomes for people in the community
c. Knowledge management activity (gather information, result, lessons learned, and experiences from the project)
i. Meeting to conclude lessons learned from the project
ii. Create media for campaigning and distributing the project for instance, documentary and brochures.
d. Participatory evaluation
i. Evaluation and collaboration with community organization, local government organization, and allies in area level
? Targeted group:
Tai-yuan tribe or Muang people. This group of people are the native people in this area, and most of them live in northern part of Thailand and in Chiangmai. Another targeted group is Tai-yai. The Tai-yai is the migrant group which create cultural diversity in the area.
