Community Model on Climate Change Adaptation and Participatory Natural Resources Management
bjectives:
a) Develop modeling area in resource management with cooperation in order to protect, restore, and take care of land, water, and forest resources, and develop agricultural system that is environmental-friendly in 9 communities in the Northern part
b) Create cooperating network with government, private development organization, community organization, local government organization, institutions, and private sectors in exchanging knowledge and support tribes in high area to be able to corporate in managing natural resources
c) Distribute experiences, lessons and native tribes' natural resources management, native tribe in high land area in Northern part so that the public and policy makers understand and support native tribe in managing natural resources
? Beneficial: 519 households
? Target area:
Thai-mount village in areas which are Nan, Chiangmai, Lampoon and Petchaboon. Villages locate in high area along hillside or flat area near stream rive in the high area. Each villages frontier is high mountain area for more than 90% of all area. There are small flat areas near stream river.
? Proposed activities:
a. Activity to strengthen community?s ability
i. Campaigning on Thai environmental day with ally network and Northern Department of Environmental Quality Promotion
ii. Academic seminar between community modeling organization, academic professor, government department, and private sector in managing different aspects in Thai environmental day
b. Develop perceptions and community plan
i. Analyze ability and risk of climate change (Climate Vulnerability and Capacity Analysis: CVCA)
ii. Workshop to determine perspective, strategic, long term plan and develop the project by community
c. Encourage to follow strategic of modeling community, by using these following sample evaluation criteria:
i. Baan mae bon tai - restore diversity of community forest in 1,500 rai area which is a food sources and able to earn income
ii. Baan Jam luang - restore upstream forest by using 3 levels check dam. It is adapted from Pga K?nyau local wisdom. Also, restore academic knowledge in building check-dam 3 forms for forest restoration
iii. Baan mae larn noi - developing integrated agriculture according to Pga K?nyau, and reduce chemical usage.
d. Knowledge management activity (gather information, result, conclusion and experiences from the project)
i. Conclusion on lessons learned with modeling community and organizations in the area about strategic and cooperating management
ii. Create documentary and media as a news documentary to present to TV program, citizen anchor, and The North who work with ally network, TPBS and other events in Northern area
e. Participatory evaluation
i. Workshop to determine follow up system, participatory evaluation of modeling community, and monthly activity follow up
ii. Research and evaluate community forest diversity, and evaluate community forest?s ability in storing carbon gas
? Targeted group:
Hmong, Lua and Karen tribe. These tribes have been living in the area for more than 100 years.
