Enhancement on Risk Reduction and Preparedness to Flood Disaster in Baan Mor Ker Thai
? Objectives:
a) To adapt native local wisdom in the area to prepare for natural disaster and manage natural resources sustainably
b) To create participating system for community and ally organization to cooperate in finding solutions to tackle and manage natural disaster together
c) To create land usage strategy and mange community?s natural resources with organizations
? Beneficial: 150 households
? Target area:
Mo-ger-thai is one of seven village in Valey subdistrict, pobphra district in Tak province. It locates near Thai-Myanmar frontier. It surrounds by mountains and has a pan basin shaped land.
? Proposed activities:
a. Activity to strengthen community?s ability
i. Exchanging knowledge and observe training in prepare for disaster in Mae-sord area
b. Demonstration/Operation
i. Prepare participatory early warning system.
ii. Prepare with agency based on data and stimulation that related to community?s threat
iii. Install drain system and disaster preparation
iv. Adapt plantation system from monoculture to integrated agriculture
v. Encourage tree plantation in terrace area
vi. Encourage local plant restoration fund
vii. Conserve and restore forests along stream and river
viii. Support dam check in main river stream
c. Knowledge management activity (gather information, result, lessons learned, and experiences from the project)
i. Explore and create geographic information system, water direction, height of the area, and land usage separation
ii. Create risk diagram of the community
iii. Create risky group or fragile group in the community
iv. Platform to conclude lessons learned of the project
v. Platform to expand cooperation with organizations and area network
d. Participatory evaluation
i. Follow up work progress and evaluate work progress once every five months by reflecting information with the community
? Targeted group:
Apart from Thai people, the native tribe who also live in this village is the Karen group.
