Conservation of the River Waseges Catchment for fresh water management, improved well-being and environmental conservation.
The Lake Bogoria Water Resources Users Association (WRUA) proposes to protect the catchment of River Waseges through creating awareness to surrounding communities on the importance of the river and its protection; engage communities in rehabilitating the catchment areas through demarcation of riparian zones and encouraging communities not to engage in activities beyond the demarcated areas planting of indigenous vegetation including establishment of tree nurseries that will provide seedlings for the reforestation/afforestation exercise on the River Weseges catchment. The survival rates of the trees planted will be enhanced through community watering especially using waste water from domestic activities by the community members. Additionally, the management committee will sensitize the community to plant during the rainy season to take advantage of the natural precipitation.
Communities will also be encouraged to sell the excess seedlings to other communities in the region. Through this project, capacities of WRUA officials and communities will be developed to ensure that the WRUA undertakes its mandate effectively and that communities appreciate and work together with Lake Bogoria WRUA in protecting river Weseges catchment.
