Abbataroh village is located in Nujid coastal plain in southern Socotra (Between Bedhola and Mahta Villages). Most of its inhabitants are herder?s mover from mountain to coastal area due to public services availability e.g. Education, Health and roads. Their main occupation is herding livestock principally goats and sheep that take place in the hill slopes north of abbatarroh (Difsha). The hill slope that escalating towards Diksam Plateau is called ?Difsha?. Hence difsha is a pastoral ranges with no permanent settlements and water resources.
Project aims to assist herders in difsha who come from Abataroh and Mahatta villages to secure water in their rangelands for use by human and animals. This is going to be through building 155 tanks for rain-water harvest. The total capacity is 3000 cubic meters. The project benefiting 192 families and a total population of 1071 inhabitants (565 M& 506 F) and their livestock (estimated number 50,000 heads).
Project will help to raise communities awareness of the environment and the conservation of natural resources. This will be achieved through 2 workshops for men and women where at least 300 men and women would be reached. At the end of project an independent evaluation for project outcomes will be carried out with the involvement of beneficiaries. Lesson learnt will be driven to ease dissemination to other communities.
