Trainings were organized in 6 soums of Uvurkhangai and Bayankhongor provinces with the project?s second funding. The training participants successfully wrote projects based on indicators such as the soum?s market, prices of goods and materials and population size. Uyanga soum of Uvurkhangai province: A total of 32 persons participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into five teams by business ideas. Ms. Badamtsetseg, officer at the governor?s office of the soum, said that she would present the eligible projects drawn up by the training participants to the soum?s authorities and finance them from the ?Soum Development Fund?.
Khairkhandulaan soum: A total of 32 soum residents participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into four teams by business ideas.
Baruunbayanulaan soum: A total of 32 soum residents participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into five teams by their business ideas. Land along the soum?s Taats river has been cultivated since early times. Therefore, the projects were primarily focused on land cultivation.
Bumbugur soum of Bayankhongor province: A meeting with Munkh-Ochir, the soum?s environmental inspector, revealed that most of the soum?s residents were out of town engaged in artisanal gold mining, and there was no-one left in the soum centre to attend the training. As a result, the trainers went to the location of the gold miners? CBO and organized the training on the spot. The CBO is engaged in artisanal gold mining around 50 km from the soum centre. The training was conducted in a ger kindergarten. A total of 20 soum residents participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into 3 teams by their business ideas.
Galuut soum: During our meeting with state environmental inspector Ganzorig said, ?There is no artisanal gold mining on the territory of our soum because it has an official deposit. However, our soum residents went to Bumbugur and Ulziit soums acting on the rumous of gold discovery in those two soums.
A total of 25 residents participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into 3 teams by their business ideas.
Ulziit soum: Environmentalists and CBO chief Amgalan organized a training in this soum.
Residents participating in the ?Green Mining? NGO?s project and the HAMO project attended the training. A total of 36 people participated in the training and wrote projects being divided into 5 teams by their business ideas.
Residents of Bayankhongor province?s 3 soums showed the largest attendance in the training. Some of them attended the training in the daytime and mined for gold at night.
