Fitikanai floricultural green house for women?s economic empowerment
This project specifically aims at women?s engagement and empowerment in the village. There are a lot of women with skills, knowledge, and enthusiasm for flori-cultural arrangement, but they were not able to utilize those because of the lack of materials and financial challenges. However, SGP funding enabled them to be take actions at the local level, and empower the community and people at the grass-roots level. Locally produced flower (mainly empirical flowers) are well grown, and those are sold within the island for many purposes, such as church building decoration, wedding, funeral, hospital, and many kinds of events, celebrations. Women are able to gain some financial benefits from those, and they can procure new seeds and pots, or procure items to take care of greenhouses if something happens. Those who wants to buy flowers from the association directly contact the association, or members so they can arrange the details. This floricultural greenhouses attract many of the youths, and they get interested in the floral arrangement. This provides youth the useful life skills in on the island that will lead them to gain benefits. Since each women who is responsible for the greenhouse has knowledge and experiences on different kind of flowers, they can learn the techniques, and tips for growing different floral.
