Climate Smart Campus
Climate Smart Campus
This planning grant will support the development of the full project proposal to implement smart renewable energy and energy efficiency choices on the high school campus of St. Anns School.

Activities under this project address the importance of implementing mitigation measures to address the potential impacts of climate change on low-lying, small island developing states, like The Bahamas. They also address the high cost of electricity which heavily impacts the operational costs of a school that uses air-conditioning and artificial lighting.

The St. Anne?s School Eco-Club is therefore seeking funding to support sustainable development of the school campus. Our project addresses barriers to fully embracing sustainable practices, from a school?s perspective. These include:
1 The need to reduce our reliance on fossil fuels and in so doing, reduce GHG emissions while ensuring that the school community benefits socially, culturally and financially.
2 That although backyard gardening is an important part of our heritage, it is seldom practiced even though it provides many health and social benefits and can bring environmental benefits, when done sustainably.
3 Lack of awareness and limited opportunities to engage the people in our local community about simple actions that they can take to live more sustainably.

Activities under this project, installation energy-saving technologies, cultivation of our sustainable vegetable garden and community engagement activities will significantly enhance our learning community, influence pedagogy and catalyse the transformation of St. Anne?s School into a sustainable Climate-Smart Campus.
