The main objective of the project is promotion of eco-tourism around Meemure village. Many alternative livelihood opportunities will be generated with the improvement of ecotourism, such as promotion of traditional local foods, value added agricultural products and, reed & cane handicrafts that can be easily marketed at the site. One day awareness workshop will be carried out for 20 persons currently engaged in eco-tourism related industries. They will be trained and facilitated to formalize and standardize their tourism activities which will be helpful to improve their income generation. One day training programme on making cane and reed crafts will be organized for 25 villagers. Necessary equipment will be provided and the final products will be purchased to be sold in the sales centre which is proposed to be established at the entrance to the village. Home gardening will be promoted. Necessary knowledge & seeds will be provided. The traditional rice, vegetables, fruits & home garden products produced in the village will be sold at the proposed sales centre. This will create opportunities to earn an additional income for the community. Kitul (fish tail palm) & pepper products will be brought from the villages and will be processed at the planned production centre. A 2 day training programme will be organized for 25 persons on making food products from traditional yam varieties (edible roots and tuber varieties commonly known as yams).

The project will facilitate capacity building of the community in aspects such as knowledge and awareness, positive attitudes & sensitivity to the environment. The project will provide training and capacity building of farmers in eco-friendly farming practices such as preparation of organic fertilizer, including liquid fertilizer and training in organic pest control methods. The project will also take steps to enhance the capacity of beneficiaries especially in local industries such as making cane & reed crafts. Moreover, the project expects to build capacities of the community and promote the village as an Eco-tourism Community with management capacity.

The selected project area is a popular tourist attraction. Most of the youth in the area is engaged in tourism related business ventures. The project seeks to formalize these tourism industries. As the project is an ecotourism venture, it is very much attractive to the youth. A two day environment camp will be organized for 50 youth in the village and the youth will be made aware of the opportunities as well as risks of the tourism industry. They will be organized as a formal youth group to take leadership and take organized actions for issues that has emerged in the village as result of large influx of tourists. An environment protective force will be formed with these young people. 5 young tour guides and life guards will be trained and facilitated to ensure the safety of the tourists who engage in dangerous water sports.
