Communities of the selected project area depend mainly on paddy farming and kitul (fish tail palm) based industries such as making jaggery & kitul treacle. These industries will be formalized and facilitated through the project for value addition and to enhance the income generation.2000 kitul trees will be planted in the area to ensure consistent supply of raw materials for kitul based industries. Currently dead kitul trees are not used for any purpose in this area. A craftsmen will be trained and facilitated to make kitul based wooden crafts. Women of the village will be encouraged to make handy crafts from kitul wood. Home gardening will be promoted and optional income generation is expected. The community will be encouraged to grow fruit trees and vegetables in the homesteads.50 families will be trained on bee keeping and their produce will be bought by the organization. 25 families will be supported for poultry farming by providing chicks. 4 villages will be trained as eco-tour guides and will have an opportunity to earn an additional income.

The communities will be made aware of value addition techniques in kitul based industries to enhance income generation. Training programmes on eco-friendly home gardening and bee keeping will be organized for the community

The project will work with local communities closely, therefore use of local language will be a primary factor both for conservation activities and in videos and documentaries with subtitles where necessary.
