The effective management of the Pitons Nature Trail as an integral part of the Pitons Management Area World Heritage Site through community involvement and stakeholder participation.
The goal of this project is to: To review and improve the management effectiveness of the Gros Piton Nature Trail through initiatives and processes that produce sustainable benefits for all partners and the smart objectives are as follows: (i) to review and improve the management of the Gros Piton Nature Trail through a process which is inclusive and allows for the equitable distribution of benefits;
(ii) to create a community cooperative which will ensure effective community participation and management of the Gros Pitons Nature Trail; (iii) to design and implement one or more tour options as new income sources for the community of Fond Gens Libre; (iv) to develop the capacity of the Cooperative to effectively manage the Gros Piton Nature Trail; (v) to develop and implement a marketing plan for the Gros Piton Nature Trail with a focus on community development in partnership with all stakeholders; and (vi) To establish and maintain a community learning process which is maintained over time.
The following outputs was achieved : Management Plan is approved and being implemented; Monitoring & Evaluation Plan Established and operational. Cooperative legally established and functioning. New livelihood option(s) bringing in significant income to the community.
Community is demonstrating the capacity to manage the site based on the Management Plan.
Marketing Plan being implemented and there is an increase in income to the community.
Community enters and remains in a learning mode.
