Project Characteristics and Results
Gender Focus
Both men and women benefit from the project. However, particular focus is on capacity development of women, which was reflected in the number of women (around 71%) participating in the trainings for guides described above. In parallel with the theoretical course, the selected guides had practical field trainings to improve their skills on the field. Training participants received Georgian-English recordings, prepared during the SGP project implementation.
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
Lessons learned and project results were shared with different target groups through various information sources during the project implementation. More precisely, information on the status, distribution, protection mechanisms and importance of the target species was prepared and information boards were placed in the populated places and roads near birds distribution area: 1 in Khikhana, 1 in Chirukhi, 1 in Jvari Mindori and 1 in Merisi (Koslistavi). 500 information brochures were distributed through local population and representatives of tourism industry. Video on the biodiversity of the Lesser Caucasus Mountains, including the target species was posted on UNDP Georgia Facebook page in connection with the Biodiversity Day. Several presentations and trainings were conducted regarding tourist routs/trails for local population, representatives of tourism agencies and media. In addition, info tour was conducted in Jvari Mindori (Shuakhevi Municipality) which was broadcasted on local TV.
