Gender Focus

The project aims to transform 5 Municipal Libraries of Chiatura into "Green Libraries", which in addition to traditional activities will have the responsibility of assisting the local population in gaining practical environmental knowledge and facilitating dialogue between civil society and government to improve environmental governance. Also, it will help women and various social and vulnerable groups to become more actively involved in environmental activities. Most of the employees in the libraries are women. However, as gender relates to both sexes, on the contrary, it is important to increase the involvement and interest of men and fathers in this field. In addition, it is important to use library spaces for the research of the needs of the local population and subsequently find ways for solving them.

Project sustainability

The project was implemented in Chiatura Public Libraries, which are funded from the municipal budget, and the property purchased and created under the project has been transferred to the balance sheet of the municipality and is protected by the state. At the same time, all libraries are members of the Georgian Library Association and are constantly monitored by the Association, thus ensuring the sustainability of the project and the long-term benefits of the project.
