Bolkar Mountain Nomads
Bolkar Mountains is a unique geography for a lot of species in our country and it is a Key Biodiversity Area according to the studies of Do?a Association. One of the reasons of this area is being such generous is the nomad life continuing for thousands of years without corruption. This migration movement supports the bio-diversity of the mountains, lowlands and the land. Also, it plays an important role for the persistence of different ecosystems in the area. After the natural herbivorous species disappeared this gap has been filled by shepherd style goats and sheep. Especially plants, mammalians and bird species are related to migratory culture.
Unfortunately, sociological changes in recent years affected negatively migratory culture in our zone. There are particular reasons such as women are not as willing as before, there are economical concerns of nomads and shepherding is gradually becoming an undesirable occupation. Our association started a study to protect migratory culture and accordingly to protect its role in the ecosystem.
In this project primarily, needs are determining the relationships between migratory culture and bio-diversity with scientific ways and sharing those findings with interested partners. Migratory cultures have lots of nature friendly productions. Hair goat loom and milk products are the leading ones. Specially to increase the motivation of the women and to honor the women business enterprises will be made with local authorities. In addition to the above information, illegal hunting and indirect intoxication cases has been observed in the area. That kind of threats will be targeted to be eliminated on a large scale by working with local people and interested parts.
