Kazdagi Agro-biodiversity and Conservation Project
The words ecology and economy derive from the term oikos, which is Ancient Greek, pointing to the house and its garden. In this respect, both of them are sciences of our house, the planet in which we live. However, at the point reached in our age, these two disciplines, which have fundamental connections with each other, look to opposite directions. For centuries, ecological concerns have been left aside for economic growth and more profit, and efforts to preserve the biological and cultural diversity of life have been seen as an obstacle to economic development. At this point, our biological and cultural heritage is gradually decreasing, and social inequality embodied in income distribution makes itself visible in every aspect of human life.
It is clear that the current deterioration needs to be transformed. In this context, establishing a reliable and responsible economic model based on ecologically and socially just production that will restore good and trustable relationships between people will be a strong foundation for the future of the planet, to preserve and enrich biological diversity.
In the face of the threats they face, the Kazda?lar? and the Edremit Bay region are one of the important areas in this respect. Because the producers of the region give up their traditional production models due to external influences and economic conditions, they leave irreversible effects on our soil, water and air with chemical supported conventional agricultural methods and even leave agricultural lands that can be the guarantor of biodiversity to sectors such as energy, mining and tourism.
Within the scope of the project, producers producing ecologically and socially just production will be identified, production processes and declarations will be recorded in a written and visual form, advertised to the masses. It will be ensured that producers communicate directly with the prosumers and present their products that contribute to agricultural, cultural and biological diversity to the prosumers in their shop in an online marketplace where similar producers are in solidarity.
