- The project aims to combat land degradation in Upper Badibou District of the North Bank Region by targeting 2 cluster villages in The North Bank Region - a region heavily affected by land degradation.

- A stakeholder workshop conducted in Ngain Sanjal village to highlight the project goal, objectives, activities and outputs for all the communities involved in project implementation.

- As Agroforestry and tree planting on the degraded landscapes were important components of project activities, 2 tree nurseries were established in Ngain Sanjal and Ballo Ibra villages to raise 6, 000 and 3, 000 seedlings respectively.

- A Agroforestry training was conducted on 2nd August 2019 for 175 participants to enhance their skills on the subject. At the conclusion of the training, they were supplied with seedlings for planting on their croplands.

- 9, 000 seedlings raised in the 2 nurseries were distributed and planted among the communities targeted by the project as part of the reaforestation efforts to combat land degradation.The seedlings were distributed among the beneficiary communities for planting in the 2020 rainy season.

- To address deforestation in the area, 100 energy efficient cook stoves were manufactured through a local blacksmith and distributed among 100 households in the project communities. This was aimed at minimizing the use of fuel wood by promoting energy efficiency and addressing indoor pollution among women and young children. Each household uses 2 kgs of wood for cooking and cooks 2 times daily. In a year (365 days) x 4 kgs = 1, 460 kgs of wood utilised.

Each kg of wood emits 1 kg of CO2. A household that generally uses 2 kgs of wood daily, also emits 1, 460 kgs of CO2 in a year. By using an energy efficient cook stove which has an efficiency rate of 40%, each household only emits 584 kg of CO2 emitted. For 100 households, the total amount of CO2 emitted was 5.8 tons, a reduction of 40%.
