- The project kick started with a 3 week intensive training programme for 30 women vegetable farmers from 13 villages in the Upper River Region at the demonstration farm located in the village of Tintinjo in the Upper River Region.

The training dates and topics covered for the 30 trainees were as follows:

10 - 14 September 2019 - Vegetable production best practices.
15 - 19 September 2019 - Vegetable food processing techniques.
20 - 24 September 2019 - Entrepreneurship skills.

- The training sessions were aimed at addressing some of the bottlenecks encountered by the women vegetable growers during the production season. It included topics such as site selection, land preparation, bed demarcation and preparation, seed selection techniques, sowing techniques, care of seedlings, transplanting techniques, plant spacing, plant population, pest identification and control using cultural (no chemical) means, watering techniques, composting and application methods, harvesting methods and storage techniques. The sessions also included wet season vegetable production techniques as most vegetable production in the country is mostly confined to the dry season.

- The second training session dealt with food processing techniques in a bid to preserve and prolong the shelve life of vegetables. Most vegetables are produced in the dry season leading to a glut and low prices at the markets. With preservation techniques, the training demonstrated ways of transforming the products in food products such as various jams, tomato paste, etc that can be stored and put on the market during scare periods thus fetching reasonable prices.

- The 3rd training session dealt with developing the entrepreneurial skills of the women vegetable producers to adopt a business model for their farming enterprise. It covered topics such as market information and analysis so as to know when to grow which crop to avoid market gluts, book keeping, income and profit determination and marketing skills.

- At the end of the 3 training programmes, each of the 30 women conducted a step-down training on the same topics in their respective villages with each participating training a additional 10 members each. In the end, a total of 300 women vegetable producers were trained and adopted the technologies in their work.

- A knowledge fir was organised by the grantee on March 14, 2020 and attended by 30 women farmers of the association, GEF SGP, a representative of the Regional Governor, The Chairman of the Local Authority (Basse Area Council), village authorities, local partners operation in the region among others. The objective of the fair was to share experiences and good practices acquired during the 12 months of project implementation. The fair included presentations on experiences and good practices some of which were demonstrated in the form of dramas and plays, and a public display of some of the produce.
