The project was implemented in the PERD Assisted Villages in Tehsil, Peshawar. The duration was one year commencing in January 1994.

The project aimed to create awareness among communities about the environmental degradation and make them able to increase plan population. To further promote improved forest and range management and ensure sustained use of local resources to enable rural communities to manage their natural resources using environmentally sound methods and reduce soil erosion and improve water conservation.

Activities to be carried out under the projects included education and creating the awareness of the advantages of social forestry and the environment as a whole. Further activities included the conservation of woodlots by imposing a social ban by making the village activists responsible. The afforestation of the result /selected areas and those situated close to the mullahs and adjacent to the roadside was also encouraged. Nurseries for plant raising would be established and subsequently training in nursery management was to take place in coordination with the forestry departments along with the establishment of local fencing.

The project participants and beneficiaries were four hundred and eighty plus and the community base were to be involved in the management of the project. The anticipated results of the project were general awareness in villagers about the environmental up gradation, increase in the population of plants, decrease in soil erosion through control, water conservation, usage of wood instead of fuel and timber and linkages with commercial sector and family incomes.
