Governance and Management of Forests by Involving Local Communities Surrounding Forests
The project focuses on a vital sector in Jordan, namely forests.
This project is concerned with the forests that are not protected from the Dibeen forests, which are of global importance as they are the southern boundary of the Aleppo pine forests in the world.
The project is directly linked to GEF priorities for biodiversity, protected areas, local communities and local populations:
The project has agreed with the GEF core themes in the following points:
1. Improve the sustainability and spread of the network of protected areas through community participation and capacity-building in biodiversity protection and ecosystem management.
2. Maintain the specific composition of biodiversity and reduce the threats and risks to biodiversity.
3. Develop and promote environmental innovations by empowering communities and providing tools and methods to involve non-governmental organizations and local communities in projects related to forest protection
As for the national priorities of the Ministry of Environment, the project emphasizes the national biodiversity strategies, including environmental improvement plans, and the creation of best partnerships with local community institutions and local populations to develop real projects in a form that maintains and sustains environmental biological systems.
One of the types of governance-driven projects that concern of the involvement of all stakeholders including local communities in forest management is that Many individuals and institutions that have a national and environmental sense are concerned with the protection of forests and biodiversity but do not associate this with their daily lives and their importance at multiple levels, especially economic and climatic, which affect the quality of their crops of olive pomegranate and other grapes and their quality of life and abundance of water, soil fertility, all of this simple citizen does not link the existence of forests and his life, especially the recreational and aesthetic aspect is equally important About the predecessors.
This project will raise the awareness of individuals, adults and young people about the importance of sustaining and developing forests in a sustainable manner and working with the official authorities in order to preserve this national treasure. Their role will be pivotal and of great importance to those who will subsequently monitor and follow up within the Youth Committee and the clans.
