Through the ongoing collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, MECO was made aware of other ongoing efforts throughout the Parish of Trinity to develop green space projects, which have had varying degrees of success. Most of these efforts have been spearheaded by the Community Tourism Unit of the Ministry of Tourism and facilitated by donations from the private sector. As part of this project, MECO has targeted two (2) ongoing green space initiatives at Lower Boyds Housing Project and Palmetto Point, with the objective of working with those communities to facilitate their completion and upkeep. In the case of Lower Boyds Housing Project, fencing work for the green space was initially done however it has since been damaged in some areas. In addition, the community residents have tried, to no avail, to complete a very significant monument on the Green Space which aims to memorialize past community residents. The Green Space can also benefit from floral beautification and lighting. In the case of Palmetto Point, some decorative work was done including the painting of tires/rocks and flower planting. However additional landscaping work and the installation of signage are required. The community has not been able to access additional funding or private sector support to complete their Green Space design. MECO, therefore, wishes to include these initiatives in this SGP application to provide the necessary support to our sister communities.
The positive outcomes of this multi-community initiative have significant implications for improving community welfare, pride, community-based tourism and revenue generation.
