Project sustainability
The model for empowering local CBOs to co-manage several coastal waters to protect corals and develop tourism is a perfect match for natural resources conservation and the community?s benefits. During the last two years, the project has built on previous results on aquatic resources co-management in Quy Nhon Bay (the model of ?the local community?s participation in coral reef ecosystem protection associated with community based ecotourism development in Nhon Hai commune , Quy Nhon city" funded by GEF SGP in 2015-2017 and the co-management models developed within the framework of the Binh Dinh CRSD project) to have successfully completed its planned activities, i.e. training to enhance the CBOs? capacity, consolidating their organizational structures, developing their human resources, providing technical consultations in a well matched manner. These illustrate that the local CBOs are now quite capable of better co-management in coastal waters assigned under the provisions of the 2017 Fisheries Law. The established community?s funds with the financial contribution mechanism are now in place to provide funds for the local CBOs? co-management. This model is almost indispensable for those localities are facing a trade-off between environmental and natural ecosystem conservation and economic development for the local community?s livelihoods to apply.
