Conservation and reforestation of degraded Transgogol valley, Madang Province
This project is taking place in an area that had undergone massive deforestation in the early 70's under legal government permits. The area now boasting secondary forest re-growth is being selected for native tree replanting by a local NGO that has an interest in protecting standing forest and looking into improving previously logged areas and assisting with regeneration of degraded forest areas. Communities have been selected to participate in project implementation and to benefit from 10 viable community livelihood options, construction of 10 nurseries will take place including the planting of estimated 10,000 seedlings and more while the total area identified for seedling lanting constitutes at least 10 hectares.
