Display boards with project information will be fixed at the project site. Awareness programmes and group meetings have also been conducted with the community.

Home gardening will be promoted in 1000 hectares in the selected villages. The community will be mobilized to grow 30000 plants of minor export crops such as pepper in 1000 hectares and plant 5000 fruit plants. Production of value-added community agro products such as coffee and lime will be carried out by the CBOs. The project expects to reach the export market and this will bring substantial economic benefit for the rural communities.

The grantee has proposed to establish 4 community-based organizations (CBOs) to strengthen the communities. 50 community members will be trained as leaders to lead and represent their communities in the CBOs. The community will be made aware of soil conservation practices, water conservation and eco ?friendly cultivation methods which could be used to increase yields from paddy cultivations and home gardens.

The majority of the beneficiary community consists of members of the youth. They are organized into several CBOs which are managed by the trained youth. Young community members take part in project activities and they are the main beneficiaries of the project as well. The youth are trained in various sectors such as leadership, management and technical knowledge on efficient farming practices, soil conservation, and organic farming, etc.

The project works with local communities closely, therefore the use of local language will be a primary factor both for conservation activities and in videos and documentaries with subtitles, where necessary.

This project is being implemented within the buffer zone of the Knuckles Conservation Area. Negative impacts that could be harmful to the knuckles Conservation Area could be minimized from this project and strengthen its' conservation. Experience and lessons learned through the implementation of this project can be used for the preparation of policies of forest conservation.
