This project is aim to build a sense of ownership in every level of the communities toward a green and healthy environment, through community cohesiveness and interwoven relationship youth will feel they belong and will acquire a sense of responsibility toward their environment by participating, managing and playing a environment stewardship roles in their communities.

TNYC environment division have work in forming a volunteer youth green team in Vava?u, Ha?apai and Tongatapu and ?Eua, through a process of consultation with Town Officers and District Officer a Green Code was develop for the youth in 2017.

This is a response to the increasing concern from the youth on ongoing issues of waste management, deforestation, endangered bird species and marine organism, soil erosion and lack of water management.

This project will build on these commitment and pledge from the youth of Tonga toward a Greener environment and plastic free Tonga. The project will focus on empowering local community to be responsible and take a leadership role for a development programs that is environmentally sustainable and is climate responsible.

Key problem Areas to be address in this project are Outer Island Rubbish and Plastic on land and villages and ocean, deforestation and clearance of forest and cover crops for commercial farm as well as clearance of coastal tree and mangrove for new settlement and agricultural activities. The project will also look at diminishing population of bird species, trees and marine organism from land and ocean. It will also look at water conservation method in agricultural activities.

The project will be divided into three Phases. The first phase will be a community-based approach of ?Talanoa? meeting session, community outreach and consultation with three islands in Vava?u which consist of five villages, one islands in Ha?apai which consist of 4 village and 3 islands three villages in Tongatapu.

Phase 2 will be a partnership approach develop with different group in the communities to manage an allocated area agreed upon by the village or island to become a national & historical park that youth group and other communities group can do conservation project as well as a relaxation area for communities this will be known as the ?Green Management Area? (GMA).

Phase 3 will also be a partnership approach with different organization such as Waste Authorities to do rubbish collection from islands to be dispose properly in the Land fill and Garbage dump in Vava?u, Ha?apai and Tongatapu. It will also look and work on the No Plastic Campaign of the Youth Green Team.
