1. Arrangement of an experimental demonstration nursery for the reproduction of local natural resources illegally harvested by the local population in the habitats of the snow leopard, for the subsequent application of this practice in the economic activities of local communities.
2. Creating a protected ecosystem with the involvement of the local community through the development of a social contract and the transfer of rights and responsibilities to protect the snow leopard, its food supply and its habitat.
3. Obtaining sustainable livelihoods for local communities through the development and implementation of the Path to Snow Leopard ecological tourist route and other related tourism products and services.
4. Raising public awareness about the snow leopard, by involving the local community in educational programs to ensure the conservation of the snow leopard and its habitat.
Formation of a protected ecosystem with the involvement of the local community for the protection of the snow leopard, its food base and its habitat by ?Green Public Patrols?
Gender Focus
Number of hectares of industrial landscapes, where will be applied methods of sustainable use of resources - 10 ha;
Area of the nursery for planting of seedlings - 0.5 ha;
Number of seedlings of endemic plants grown in a nursery and planted in a-habitat snow leopard zone ? 11500;
Number of households that have received sustainable environmental management practices ? 40 HHs;
Number of households using the provided practices for growing trees and plants/grass in their territories upon completion of the project- 20 HHs;
Number of households that received seedlings of more productive fruit trees- 20 HHs;
Number of households cultivating trees (which they use for construction and fuel) - 20 HHs;
Number of trees planted in the zone of economic activities of local communities ? 6000 people;
Number of people involved in the use of the provided practices -260
Project sustainability
The finacial sustainability of the project is ensured by the presence of a stable income received by households especially in the field of eco-tourism and the production of suvvenir products. The active involvment of women in the project?s activities will contribute the positive gender impact.
Ecological sustainability is ensured by the creation of a new ecoregion protected by local communities (work on the restoration of degraded areas to increase the area of forests and forest plantations, protection of land from erosion).
Local communities will ensure the protection of the snow leopard's habitat by the forces created by the ?Green Public Patrols?; the interaction of state Executive authorities, local authorities, and the local community and the presence of contracts between local households and industry entities to promote products and services produced by local communities to domestic and foreign markets.
Project Results
Increased understanding of the significance of snow leopard conservation among key stakeholders.
A community has been formed that is interested in the conservation of the snow leopard and its habitat.
Practices for growing natural resources outside the habitat of the snow leopard will reduce the anthropogenic load on the natural territories of the snow leopard.
As a result of arranging the tourist route, the local community will receive income without causing damage to nature.
