The communities of EDA (Alohkapw, Ipwitek, Kinakapw, Malewe, Elenieng, Areu and Ohwa) are made up of Pohnpeian families that are employing traditional agroforestry methods to farm. With the increase in temperature, rainfall and more frequent and stronger storms that Pohnpei is experiencing under climate change, we need to diversify our crops to those that are more resilient to the changes in our environment. The Enimwahn Development Authority members are motivated to focus on planting more resilient local crops and increasing the diversity of their food crops that are climate resistant to improve the biodiversity of crops in our community so we can better adapt to the changes in climate that Pohnpei is already beginning to witness and to grow healthier foods to help combat the NCD crisis in Pohnpei. In addition, we reaffirm the importance of our cultural medicinal plants, and want to preserve their use and importance in local medicine. We are looking to increase the ability of our community members to work their land through proven agroforestry techniques that will be environmentally-friendly and grow a more diverse crop of climate resistant fruits and medicinal plants that can assist with the food security, healthy lifestyles, and income generation capacity of our members.(GEF Focal Area: Biodiversity)
