Project Context:
SULEDO is a Community based Forest Reserve located in Kiteto District Manyara Region.SULEDO is an abbreviation of the names of the three founding wards which are Sunya Ward, Lengatei Ward and Dongo ward. It was established in 1993 by the people living in and adjacent to that Natural miombo Forest. It was through people?s solidarity and indigenous Communities governing systems that enabled the protection of SULEDO forest as the Community livelihood depend on forest for food, medicine, grazing, water, fuel wood, and fooder recreation/ spiritual substance and Timber and non timber products for income generating activities
It was through forest protection and Management that indigenous Community especially MAA Community managed to conserve some rituals sites including a hill where elders use to train young warriors and eat meat and herbs (Orpul) for the preparation of their roles. The warriors had the role of protecting the environment to ensure that the forest is secure and protected against external land grabbers and any one that want to distort the forest. On the same hill other rituals ceremonies are performed there including graduating from one age set to another.
This project Focus to support community effort in Conservation and forest protection especially women who are informative and active in protection and conserve the forest through the following areas of interventions: Capacity building in management Committee including three Communities representatives from each village; -promote conservation and protection of indigenous Community Forest through use of Local Sungusungu (Vigilantee0); Capacity building in Income Generating Activities such Honey value addition as an alternative source of income for the protection of the forest.

SULEDO was officially registered and gazetted in the Government Gazette in January 2007 with GN no. 2 2007 after drawing the map of Suledo and all boundaries demarcated and Joint Management Committee formed with three representatives from each Village while considering gender balance.
SULEDO is one of the best practices of participatory forest Management (PFM) in Tanzania. Due to the efforts and people solidarity in Conservation and protect of the Forest, Tanzania forest research institute (TAFORI) was convinced and recommended that indigenous Communities living in and around the forest can manage the forest sustainably as they mostly depend the forest for pastures, Water, and inhabitant.
The founding Villages included Sunya, Lengatei, Lesoit, Orkitikiti, Engongengare, Asamato, Loltepes, Olgira and Laiser in the three Wards which name SULEDO is drived having an area of 167,400 ha of Natural miombo forest.
Main Objectives.
To make significant SULEDO forest protection and conservation for the betterment of indigenous communities living in within the forest and environmental justice
Specific Objectives.
Objective 1; Enhance the protection and Sustainable Conservation of SULEDO Forest.
Objective 2; Promotion of economy through Value chain addition for SULEDO honey to indigenous women and youth
Objective3- promotion of Conservation for indigenous traditions and cultural best practices for future generation
