Envisioning Palau 2030: Building CSO Capacity Through the SDGs *Note: Originally PLW/SGP/OP6/Y5/STAR/2019/05
The goals of this project are to: (a) Increase knowledge about the SDGs among NGOs/CBOs, state and community leaders, and the community at large; (b) Communicate key findings from the First Palau Voluntary National Review (VNR); (c) Map the ongoing work of NGOs/CBOs across the 17 SDGs; Facilitate expanded or new initiatives to implement the SDGs especially by community-based organizations; and (d) Build the capacity of Belau Association of NGOs (BANGO) to engage, serve, and empower its member organizations. Overall project objectives include; (1) Through the ?SDG 101? training that builds on orientation activities carried out for BANGO members in 2019, increasing the knowledge of BANGO member organizations about the SDGs; (2) Implement a one-year communications campaign ?Envisioning Palau 2030?. This campaign will raise community awareness about the SDGs, findings of the First Palau VNR, and link SDG implementation to work already ongoing in the community under the leadership of national and state governments and NGOs/CBOs; (3) At least 6 national thematic observances (i.e. World Health Day, Earth Day, World Water Day, etc.) will showcase one or more SDGs during 2020 annual observances; (4) At least 50% of BANGO member organizations will undertake one SDG-themed activity or event during the year; (5) BANGO to compile Palau?s first Civil Society Report focused around SDG implementation. This will showcase work of NGOs/CBOs in the community in relation to the SDGs and ensure that this information is captured and readily available for inclusion in Palau?s Second VNR; and (6) Effectively manage the project, compile with GEF monitoring and reporting requirements, and through doing, to build the capacity of BANGO.
