ACKU's plan, through this project, was to acquire the documents related to the environment from the UN agencies, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL), National Environment Protection Agency (NEPA), other I/NGOs/institutions/organizations working in the sector of environment and national and international market. By the end of the project, a total of 1,025 documents including books and serials were acquired, catalogued, digitized and made available through the "Environment" category newly added to the ACKU?s online database during the first quarter of the project. The project was intended to help the people in Afghanistan and Afghans living abroad in recent decades, including the students and scholars specializing in environment, educational institutes, stakeholders, including CSOs and I/NGOs working in the field of environment. The collection of documents was made possible by the help of the UN agencies, NEPA, MAIL, SGP partners and the Environment Faculty at the Kabul University (EFKU). The Department Head and selected other Faculty members from EFKU also helped in making a list of most relevant books available in the national and international market for acquisition.
ACKU and its archive is located in the premises of Kabul University, however, it has ACKU stations in different other government and private universities in different provinces, such as Kabul, Herat and Bamyan. Its stations are also based in O.P. Jindal University in India and Kramfors Library in Sweden. In addition, the database is accessible to anyone inside and outside of Afghanistan.
2. Project Total beneficiaries:
In total, 854,589 users accessed the resources, out of which 393 (325 males and 68 females) were the users who visited ACKU's Reading Room and Research Room facilities. Sex/Gender is not segregated for the online users, thus the specific number of male and female online users cannot be included.
