This is an SGP Strategic Initiative in knowledge management and Capacity building which aims to meet the capacity building objective of the SGP program which is to enhance and strengthen capacities of NGOs/CBOs to engage in consultative processes, apply knowledge management to ensure the information flows, implement convention guidelines, and monitor environmental impacts and trends. With this project, TGMI can be the institution which implements this objective and in the process, be the catalyst for the SGP grantees network to provide the platform for sharing of experiences, and enhance their capacity to influence policy development at governmental level, and environmentally friendly practices and way of living in communities. TGMI will provide opportunities to showcase their work to the public and to the key influential decision makers. To be able to do this more convincingly, with this project TGMI will also have its own small project to reduce its carbon footprint and become a ?greener? institution by reducing its electricity consumption and its dependency on small water bottles. As a training institution, TGMI conducts approximately about 49 short courses and 9 workshops on its campus at Majoie in a year. These two products alone bring about over 2000 participants which are physically present on campus in a year. This contributes to about over 5000 water bottles being disposed of each year, and consumption of about over R400,000 worth of electricity consumption each year. This small project will allow TGMI to not just talk but to also walk the talk. This practice of leading by example will give a different experience to young people and give them a taste of theory being put into practice.
