Installation of Solar Energy to Pump Safe-Drinking Water to Disabled Community
Statement of need:

This project will address the following problems and threats:

Problems:
? Shortage of safe-drinking water supply to the school, clinic and residents within the mission/community;
? Difficulty for disabled persons to fetch safe-drinking water from within the steep, deep and shallow well;
? Difficulty for children under age to fetch safe-drinking water from within the well and the risk associated with it;
? The constant scarcity of safe-drinking supply daily within the disabled mission/community during the dry season;
? Pollution within the residency due to the scarcity of water to have those building and clothes adequately washed that could create health hazard to residents especially children;
? Due to the scarcity of safe-drinking and affordable water during the dry season, and due to lack of financial capacity for residents to purchase sag of water for drinking, the community experienced several water-related diseases/illnesses as well.
Threats:
? Increase in water-bond related sicknesses;
? Fear for children wanting to access water from the well losing their lives because of the steepness, deepness and shallowness of the well;
? Lack of sufficient safe-drinking water supply for the school pupils, patients at the clinic and residents within the disabled community/mission;
? Lack of financial assistance to periodically treat the well from related water-bond diseases;


The project principal target species: The project principal target is disabled persons within the disabled community/mission.

The project will work closely with disabled persons within the disabled community, the school and clinic that are also operating within the disabled community/mission.

Goal and objectives:

The long term and sustainable goal will to provide safe-drinking water for persons with disability; the school and clinic within the disabled community/mission thereby enhancing easy accessibility and affordable drinking water.

Objective 1: To improve the enhancement for constant, affordable and safe-drinking water for persons with disability, the school and clinic;

Objective 2: To curtail and/or reduce water-bond diseases/sicknesses within the disabled community through the awareness and sensitization of training/workshop on how to operate the pump for sustainability;

Objective 3: To reduce financial burden on persons with disability through easy and affordable water at all year round and creating a clean and healthy environment.

Notable Community Participation
An in-depth consultation has already taken place, with discussions beginning in 2019 with community and stakeholders representative. This proposal has evolved as a direct result of that consultation process and a pre-project development visit which was undertaken from October by GEF/SGP NC, PwP and key stakeholders
Gender Focus
Knowledge transfer and capacity building based on personal involvement of local people are at the heart of this project and hence dissemination is an integral aspect of what is planned.
