Capacity Building of Students to Address Climate Change in Schools in FCT Abuja.
This project is an upscale and seeks to encourage and demonstrate the essence of collective measures in the fight against climate change. The Project goal is to building a generation of Renewable Energy professionals and bridging the technical skill gap that currently exist. The objectives of the project are: 1. To include climate change into the curriculum of Secondary Schools in FCT 2. Increase Teachers and students awareness and knowledge on climate change and environmental issues 3. To equip the students with necessary skills to enable them take responsible actions towards improving the environment and mitigating the impacts of climate change.3. To promote environmentally-friendly lifestyles and consumption habits to protect the environment. 4. Improve environmental governance by promoting a participatory model that gathers stakeholders and encourages them to share perspectives on climate change mitigation and adaptation. Activities which will be aimed at addressing the challenges in the communities include: 1. Advocacy and Planning Meeting with FCT Secondary School Board and School Authorities. 2. Two days Train the Trainer workshop and Sensitization on Climate Change, Impacts, and adaptation and mitigation measures. 3. Establishment of Eco Clubs in 45 selected schools.4, Publication of a textbook; Understanding Climate for Secondary Schools.5, Practical demonstration on waste segregation and the provision of SGP branded waste bin in twenty schools. 6, Establishment of orchards in 20 selected schools. 7, Practical demonstration on the Installation and maintenance of Renewable Energy System such as solar photovoltaic in 3 schools without electricity. 8.One Day Environmental Festival
