Protection of Biodiversity in Jhangar Valley, Distt. Chakwal
The project is mainly located in the Jhangar Valley, Peshawar. The Population and other biotic pressures have threatened the bio-diversity resources of the valley and the main objectives of the project center around preventing further damage through providing better protection to wildlife species against poaching, protecting the rangelands and other wildlife habitats through controlled grazing of domestic livestock and effective checks over the cutting of vegetation, The goals further include the establishment of wildlife protected areas through local village organizations and creation of awareness amongst local communities for biological resources through publicity and informal public education.
Research and data collection are also featured as an integral part of the project, they are to be undertaken by making an inventor at population counts of different bird and animal species and studies on the social perceptions about the importance and problems of wildlife in the area and social and economic motives behind hunting to find solutions for the problems.
The project activities over the duration of the year will pave the way for a long-term project for conservation and sustained management of ecological resources of the valley. The participants include WWF, in close collaboration with other NGO?s and government functionaries. The main beneficiaries of the project would be the main communities in the valley.
