The strategic objectives and approaches to the implementation of the GEF Small Grants Program in Tajikistan reflect the global GEF Program Strategies, which are fundamental documents for different operational periods. SGP in the country is developed on the basis of Tajikistan's National environmental policy documents, take into account the thematic and geographical scope of projects, are periodically reviewed and adjusted in accordance with the new priorities of the GEF. In connection with the completion of the 6th operational period of the GEF (2015-2019), there is a need to develop a new strategy of UNDP-GEF SGP in Tajikistan for the next, 7th operational period (2020-2025).
The experience in conducting analytical studies of the public environmental organization "Foundation to support civil initiatives" (FSCI, Dastgiri Center) will help to develop the national program of the Small Grants Program of UNDP- GEF in Tajikistan for the 7th operational period (2020-2025). The important basis for the development of the National SGP UNDP - GEF in Tajikistan for the 7th operational period will be the new priorities of the global GEF Program, the strategies and socio-economic development program in Tajikistan for the medium and long terms.
The SGP UNDP-GEF program provides grants for projects in priority areas such as biodiversity conservation, climate change, land degradation, desertification, reduction of persistent organic pollutants and hazardous chemicals, and degradation of international water resources.
Project purpose: Development of the National Strategy of the Small Grants Program (SGP) in Tajikistan for the GEF 7 operational period (2020-2025).
Project objectives: Identification of priority areas for the development of SGP UNDP-GEF in Tajikistan for the 7th operational period, selection of landscapes, preparation of the National Strategy of the Small Grants Program for 2020-2025 period.
1. Organization of the consultation process, discussion of the draft SGP UNDP-GEF Strategy for the 6th operational period (2015-2019), identification of priority areas for the development of SGP for the GEF 7th operational period with civil society organizations, local government authorities, UNDP office in Tajikistan, government agencies.
2. Baseline assessment, selection of landscapes (areas) of SGP for the GEF 7 operational period taking into account global GEF SGP priorities, opportunities, challenges and synergies potential of thematic areas.
3. Development of the draft national strategy of the SGP UNDP-GEF for the 7th operational period in Tajikistan for 2020-2025years, discussion of the Strategy at the NCC of SGP and the UNDP office in Tajikistan.
4. Preparation of the final version of the National Strategy of the Small Grants Program for the 7th operational period (2020-2025).
