Cycle to Green Project
A major reason of urban air pollution is the intensive use of fossil fuel vehicles in urban transportation. Despite this fact, public awareness and demand for reducing air pollution caused by transportation is still low at the public level. The proposed project, in this sense, aims to raise public awareness on transportation-related air pollution and on carbon footprint reduction methods by organizing campaings and organizing awareness raising activities.
The second important aspect of the proposed project is to address the infrastructural limitations and the difficulties in accessing public bicycles to be used in urban transportation in ?zmir. This is particularly relevant for people with disabilities, whose mobility and access to the urban life is important for ensuring their citizenship rights and their contribution to the sustainability of urban life.
Our project ?Ye?ile Çevir/Ride Green? project aims to encourage and increase the use of bicycles in urban transport and to make city bikes accessbile for all disadvantaged individuals. It aims to raise awareness at societal level but also of the municipal authorities in order to make cycling as a preferred clean way of urban transportation.
As a result of our cooperation with diffierent local municipalities in ?zmir, within the framework of the proposed project, E?pedal will install tandem bicycle stations in selected points in ?zmir. The tandem bikes, which will be accessible and easily used by the disabled individuals will be offered to the use of citizens free of charge. The bicycles will be equipped with tracking devices and will be tracked via a mobile application to assess their locations and most importantly to measure the reduced rate of air pollution as a result of increased use of bikes. Within the framework of the project, awareness raising campaings on the use of bicycles and the accessibility of such use by disabled individuals ?Ride Green? aims at setting one of the examples of ?good practice" in ?zmir, to promote the establishment of tandem bike stations by a greater number of municipalities both in ?zmir and in Turkey.
