Promotion of Turkey?s Junipers
Turkey hosts rich plant diversity because of the presence of 3 overlapping eco-regions, namely European-Siberian,MediterraneanandIrano-Turanian,andvarioustopographicandclimaticstructures. Some oftheforeststructures are specificto Turkey becauseof local treespecies. Juniper forestswhich used to cover large areas in Anatolia have been destructed throughout the history due to human consumptionasconstruction, instrumentalorburningmaterial, andmedicaluse. Today, human impact threatens these forests directly by mining activities or indirectly by the climate crisis. The knowledge about juniper species of Turkey is limited. Moreover, there are only a few studies on the ecosystem

structure of these forests. However, recently, germination obstacles of junipers have been overcome andlargenumberofproductionismadepossibleinnurseries.
This study is compatible to SGP?s priority areas such as biodiversity protection, fight against climate change, soil erosion and sustainable forest management. The information about subspecies, altitude, climate, humidity, soil structure, composition of other tree species, biogeographic structure, fauna, lifespan, pollination, distribution, endemicity, threats and conservation activities will be gathered for the juniper species of Turkey. The information will be collected from the library of K?rsal Çevre and also from the scientific studies accessible on the internet. A comprehensive book on Junipers will be publishedbasedontheliteraturereviewabouttheJuniperspeciesandtheirecosystems. Threatswillbe highlighted and presented to the attention of the public. Hence, contribution to raise awareness for conservingthesespeciestogetherwiththeirhabitatswillbemade.
