Capacity Building for Climate Change Adaptation and Food Security through Urban Agriculture in Abijo, Ibeju-Lekki LGA, Lagos, Nigeria
LUFASI aims to develop a model for innovative and smart agricultural practices in cities targeting mostly women and youth, including a ?school farm and future demonstration project? in the rural Abijo community in Ibeju Lekki LGA. This community is one of the growing urban communities in Lekki Peninsula, Lagos and comprises of about 6,000 families (Election Census, 2016) of native/landowners and a large number of migrants from various parts of Nigeria who live in the community based on land acquisition for housing. The community is headed by a Baale who is the traditional head and lead the elders and chief?s council.
This project focuses both on an active community and a government policy model as well as a children demonstrative project. The Project targets 30 families (mostly women and youth) to be involved in skill acquisition and training on varied forms of innovative agriculture practices. The government policy inputs aims atto achievine g the development of an advocacy tool specifying urban agriculture for citizen education on food security, while the children education model is a farm and future demonstration project as a pilot in the community school to form a component of the climate education for children.

Project Characteristics and Results
Promoting Public Awareness of Global Environment
At the end of the second quarter, we will produce online and paper print copies of the Project brochure for public awareness on results and challenges. 1000 copies of the printed brochures will be distributed to public visitors to LUFASI and offices of major stakeholders including the Abijo community.
1000 copies of Awareness poster on the interaction between urban agriculture and climate change adaptation will be produced and distributed to community members, government offices and schools in Lekki area.
As a major part of the public advocacy, LUFASI will organize a 13-week advocacy program on radio with contents focusing on methods and actions on urban agriculture as a tool for food security and climate change adaptation. We will also organize 2 market-based forums for interactive sessions on urban agriculture practices.
