Providing Energy Efficient Stoves with Briquette-Fuel from Faidherbia albida for Rural Women in Kaduna State, Nigeria
This project aims at empowering and incentivizing 100 rural women to engage in reforestation through planting Faidherbia albida (Gao) while reducing their dependence on firewood through use of clean cook stoves.
The project is located in two rural communities, Kwagiri and Ungwa Mangoro in Jema?a Local Government area of Kaduna State. These communities are located in one of the CPS target areas in the Middle belt central woodlands.
Primary objective: To reduce dependence on firewood and charcoal for domestic cooking through reforestation and adoption of briquette-fueled Clean Cook stoves
Specific objectives:
a. To train 100 rural women to produce briquettes from agricultural waste for use in their Clean Cook Stoves thereby reducing dependence on firewood and charcoal.
b. To establish a Community Forest Management Team in two communities to supervise planting of crop-friendly Faidherbia albida (Gao) trees as replacement for felled trees by women and youths.
Project activities include:
COmmunity Dialogue, Setting up of Community Based Forest Management Team, CBFM, Economic and Social survey, Survey of forest trees in the communities, Training in production of briquettes, Training of CBFM in care, distribution and planting of Gao seedlings, Training of 100 women in the use of Clean Cook Stove. Distribution of stoves, Formation of Clean Cookstove Cooperatives/ Village savings and Loans Association in each participating community, CBFM developed guidelines, workplans to extend agroforestry project, MOU with College of Agric for students work experience in reforestation and briquette production
