Flood Control on Farm Lands in Okadonye Ochobo, Ohimini LGA, Benue state, Nigeria
The project aims at addressing the challenges affecting Community Landscape/Seascape Conservation. Build the Capacity of the local inhabitants to facilitate their involvement and active participation as direct beneficiaries, remedy their plight, sustain project and guide against reoccurrence.The project will focus on the hazardous conditions (flooding) induced by Climate Change and will address Community Landscape/Seascape Conservation.
i. Create awareness, sensitize, inform and educate the entire community on the harmful effects of some of the human activities that are detrimental to their environment.
ii. Build the capacity of the people with skills and techniques for the construction of the needed erections required to stop the floods and to be able to solve similar problem in case of reoccurrence.
iii. Ensure that each farm family affected by the flood returns to farmland.
iv. Stop youth restiveness, reduce migration and restore rural livelihood.

Project activities include:
i. Sensitization meetings with all community leaders/groups;-men as heads of families and principal animal hunters, bush burners/soil excavators; women the major tree fellers for fuel wood; energetic unemployed youths, school children to capture them young on environment issues. These meetings will continue till project is completed.
ii. As soon as the fund is sourced the topographic map of site will be obtained for study and guidance.
iii. Formation of project implementation committee.
iv. Engaging technical experts from the LGA who will build the capacity of the beneficiary (community) and guide PATTIN in the procurement of required equipment/materials have already been identified.
v. Actual construction by the skilled community guaranteeing indigenous project sustainability, women participate in providing water at site, planting trees in strategic locations.
vi. Development monitoring, supervision and reporting format with inputs from GEF-SGP/Community, and preparation of periodic and final reports,
vii. Constitution of a youth club on environment or a committee of sons and daughters from the locality (whichever appropriate) to oversee the performance of the project.
