Demonstrational Project to Develop the Rational Rural Waste Management System in Order to Reduce the Greenhouse Gas Emission and Prevent Climate Change
The main goal of the proposed project is addressing climate change through introduction of scheme solid and hazardous waste management in the village of Otegen Batyr, Almaty Region.
Project Objectives:
1. Development of a scheme for managing solid household waste in rural areas (together with Akimat)
2. Implementation of the proposed management scheme in the village of Otegen batyr, Almaty region
3. Dissemination of the results of the demonstration project
Expected Results (Quantitative and Qualitative Indicators) and Impact
Environmental, economic and social benefits of the project can be expressed by the following indicators:
Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by preliminary by 2.3 thousand tons of CO2 per year;
Decrease in the volume of waste disposed in landfills and landfills and an increase in the share of solid waste processing in rural areas of the Almaty region and a decrease in the use of natural resources due to the return of secondary resources to the cycle: at least 1 thousand tons of waste directed for processing;
Reducing emissions of POPs (dioxins and furans) by preliminary by 50.8 grams per year; Reducing the impact of pollutant emissions on human health (about 3 thousand people who have adopted eco-conscious practices);
Raising awareness among population about the separate collection of solid waste and benefits from the use of technologies with low greenhouse gas emissions (total coverage of beneficiaries: 15.1 thousand people, of which 6.6 thousand are men. 8.5 thousand are women);
Involvement of youth and women (teachers, educators) in waste management and climate change topics (about 1.5 thousand people);
Impact on waste management strategies at local and national levels.
