Using the Best Possible Opportunities to Bring Small Farmers to the Sales Markets in order to Improve the Wellbeing of Rural Inhabitants in Yenbekshikazakh Dsitrict, Almaty Oblast
Project goal: Improving the welfare of the local community through the use of optimal opportunities to bring small farmers to markets, including training on sustainable farming methods, reducing land degradation, growing vegetables in greenhouses, strengthening the mechanism for facilitating access to official markets
Tasks:
1) Restore and increase the productivity of 18 hectares of degraded land belonging to 12 farms by introducing agroecological methods to improve soil fertility,
2) Promotion of alternative farming practices for local farmers through the introduction of technology for growing vegetables in greenhouses
3) Strengthening the mechanism of assistance to small farmers in entering the official sales markets by involving them in the process of collective sales management of products,
4) Dissemination of the experience gained in increasing the fertility of degraded lands and the introduction of a mechanism to facilitate access to sales markets in the Almaty region.
According to the results of the project, it is planned to achieve the following results:
? The area of growing vegetables in greenhouses will expand to 8,890 square meters at 21 farmers by the 2020 implementation season;
? The volume of deliveries of high-quality vegetable products to supermarkets in Almaty has been increased to 150,000 kg of greenhouse products and 150,000 soil products;
? Greenhouse products sold at a stable price 3 times more than in previous years;
? The annual income of the project participants will be more than 60 million tenge from greenhouse products and at least 20 million from the sale of ground vegetables;
? Material costs will decrease by 64%, profit will increase by 22% compared with cultivation of 1.5 hectares of open ground;
? Improving working conditions in 12 farms;
? More than 6 innovative methods of cultivation agricultural technology will be introduced: the use of promising varieties of vegetables, growing seedlings in cassettes, a drip irrigation system, technology for forming plants on a trellis, the use of organic fertilizers, the use of pest control biomethods;
? On 18 ha, agroecological methods have been introduced to improve soil fertility;
? 12 farmers were trained in more than 5 methods of improving soil fertility: using organic fertilizers, planting green manure, crop rotation, mixed plantings and steam;
? The number of members of the cooperative increased to 32 people;
More than 500 rural residents of the Almaty region, including small farmers, representatives of vulnerable groups (youth, women, elderly people) were trained in new technologies in agriculture;
? 150 people were trained at 6 training seminars at ABC, 50 people will get acquainted with the experience of farmers in visiting 2 Field Days, the positive experience of farmers will be presented to a wide range of stakeholders through the organization of a press tour with field trips and press conference in Almaty
