Improving the visibility, Knowledge management and communication capital of GEF-SGP in Nigeria
Improving the visibility, Knowledge management and communication capital of GEF-SGP in Nigeria
GEF-SGP Nigeria was established in 2009. Since then, GEF-SGP has supported 143 projects in 25 states with $4.9 million worth of grant to fund. Over 1,000,000 poor rural dwellers, 65 per cent women and 35 per cent men have benefitted directly from the projects. Despite the impact of GEF-SGP Nigeria on the environment, its grantees, the communities and other stakeholders GEF-SGP has remained on the backburner in terms of its visibility as a significant player in the development sector. The goal of SGP Nigeria is ?to become the rallying point for community conservation, climate mitigation and adaptation and the source for environmental information for policy development.? Thus, GEF SGP needs to explore her experiential knowledge and capacity to translate facts, learning, insight and knowledge of the direct result of its work into a strategic Learning, Replication and Change Communication strategy. There is need for a strategy that directly supports the scale-up of GEF-SGP funded projects and provide evidence-based knowledge management that positively influences policy making on the supply side and informed choice making on the demand side. The proposed project seeks to bridge this gap; GEF-SGP?s inability to take its rightful place on the development landscape in Nigeria is framed by the larger low level of knowledge and the systemic failure to center the environment as a critical development issue both on the supply side and the demand side. The proposed project will cultivate most significant change stories from select GEF-SGP funded projects across statistically and thematically representative segments of the country port-folio as a base line for building immersive learning and knowledge management environments. The project will select GEF-SGP target communities, CBOs/CSO and multi-media platforms with the objective of building a critical mass of informed citizens on the demand side and influence critical policy making on the supply side that demonstrates improved understanding that the environment is a critical development issue. The proposed project will achieve its objective through the development and implementation of a country specific Learning, Replication and Change Communication strategy. The key project activities would include;
1. Community stakeholder analysis workshop to access impact, community learning and replication needs in six (6) select GEF-SGP communities; one (1) per geo-political region
2. One national level future search workshop and consultations to position SGP as a learning organisation on both the supply and demand side
3. Using facts, learning, insights and knowledge from activities 1 and 2 above to develop a systemic repository and country specific Learning, Replication and Change Communication strategy for GEF-SGP Nigeria
4. Identification, collection and production of SGP funded change stories from select GEF-SGP communities
5. Post production of collected success stories into multimedia specific long and short formats to lead a baseline multi-platform evidence based learning campaign using SGP specific social media handles, SGP website and select media platforms
6. Six (6) capacity building workshops for select SGP funded CBOs; one (1) workshop in each geo-political region to improve CBO capacity for community action planning and mainstreaming of learning and replication in line with the GEF-SGP country specific Learning, Replication and Most Significant Change Communication strategy; build capacity of NGOs to draft and develop documents that would effectively feed into policy dialogue and engage policy makers
Evidence led media-based dialogues on select state and national based media platforms on the occasion of relevant UN recognised international days
