Promoting Eco-system Protection & Climate Change Mitigation through Policy Advocacy, Mangrove regeneration & Livelihood strengthening in Idundu & Esuk Atu communities in Akpabuyo & Calabar Municipal LGAs (PRIME Project)
PRIME aims to contribute to climate change mitigation while reducing rural poverty through sustainable mangrove forest management in Esuk Atu (Calabar Municipality) and Idundu (Akpabuyo) communities of Cross River State. It galvanizes community?s efforts towards mangrove nursery development for replanting purpose & provide alternative livelihoods. Project seeks to increase household income for farmers through improved cassava value chain &better management of climate change for improved cassava yield. It builds participatory mangrove forest governance infrastructure from a policy perspective & strengthen networks & linkages between government, communities & stakeholders. Core actions include Project Inception engagement; Learning visit to IITA; Cassava value chain development; alternative livelihoods trainings & start ups; Various level advocacy, capacity building & action planning for mangrove forest management; mangrove regeneration. Core project indicator are: # of community members with alternative sources of income that reduces negative impacts on the mangrove; # of cassava farmers adopting CVD; # of trees nursed & transplanted; # of policy stakeholders reached through advocacy action, among others
