The project supports a state initiated nation wide Programme on vast development of irrigation system reform. The Government wants farmers to drastically cut water consumption by introducing and investing into effecient irrigation technologies - drip, rain, and subsurface irrigation. The Goverment will provide subsidies to the farmer community. The SGP project implemented by the Councilf of Farmers of Uzbekistan will lead vast outreach and media campaign to revert farmers from old practices of irrigation to the proposed practices, attract investors, support farmers by subsidies, and otherwise develop all mentioned technologies. The final objective is to raise anew culture of irrigation in Uzbekistan where old practices of irrigating by channel watering will be morally unacceptable. The only community accepted practices must be the most effective ones
