The open grass land in much of Tanna is a result of modification of natural forest to agriculture, and further the natural revegetation was suppressed by the Active volcano acidic ash fall which make the land vulnerable to loose productivity to nutrient loss through leaching. To encourage community to investigate and describe the diversity of the living nature through restoration of ecological balance and preventing land degradation at the same time promoting rural development that is environmentally sound and compatible with natural resource base. The project intended to 1) To build local capacity in forest restoration through establishment of forest nursery; to secure local conservation area through local policy and fencing and to develop structure and guidelines to guide communities on how to develop and utilize natural resources
