Building local capacity in sustainable land management and invasive species

The project is to control the spreading of invasive species and improve land towards addressing vegetation restoration within disaster evacuation center establishment remnants, to clear invasive species within deforested area and turn into sustainable agriculture for the landholders as well as cattle range establishment geared to rotational farming and pasture management or resilient crop rearing and management should there be another volcanic eruption.

Project Characteristics and Results
Emphasis on Sustainable Livelihoods
The clearance of invasive species over an areas for gardening in rearing food crops , reforestation or maintenance of cattle pasture for rotational farming.
Significant Participation of Indigenous Peoples
The local people of Maewo speaks the bislama which is the main national language that project team and local people can interact well each other. The project will be supported by the Penama Forest officer whom is know well with the local community on Maewo whom can also facilitate the engagement of the community within the project.
