The project titled ?Community Based Snow Leopard Conservative Initiative in Badakhshan?. The project supported the indigenous communities of Wakhi and Karghiz in Wakahan National Park. Around 8 Corals constructed which were very effective in protection of community livestock from the attack of Snow Leopards. The project also raised the awareness of communities to protect the Snow Leopards and other wildlife in Wakhan.
During the project implementation, a snow Leopards attacked livestock and killed a large number of cattle. Though community people captured the snow leopard, but they didn?t harm, and this shows that they knew the value of Snow Leopard and biodiversity conservation in the area. There is still requirement for construction of more corals by the communities to protect their livestock from the Snow Leopard. The initiative needs to be upscaled. It has already been communicated with UNDP to include the upscaling of this project in the upcoming projects.
