Management of pig manure pollution effected to environment and climate change by raising pig in deep pit litter system at Chomphet District, Luangprabang Province
Boumxieng village, Chomphet District, Luangprabang Province is located along the right side of Mekong River with population of 444 people (women 220) and only Khamu ethnic group in the village, their main occupation is agriculture for subsistence farming. It is far from Chomphet town about 7 KM, 95% population is engaged in shifting cultivation, 18 families of village are still poor, and all agricultures are still relying on traditional knowledge which leads to low income, moreover there is no secure occupation for young people. Hence, most of young people are coming to the city for works. Farmers now are using chemical fertilizers for their crops production to increase their productivity and use pesticides that are directly affecting to consumer and creating the problem to ecosystem and or environment, because the use of unproper technology. So, the consequent impact of human made in association with natural disasters threatening this community for instance residual chemical toxic in the soil, water pollution, landslide, flood, biodiversity loss, wildlife insecurity, irregular rainfall, and overcast weather. One way to solve these problems is to do the compost from raising pig deep pit litter system can improve soil quality for helping to improve the soil structure, use for vegetable plantation in order to find the alternative for agricultural production, use in to the pond to produce plankton for fish feed, and reduce unpleasant smell. Therefore, project aims to improving the nutritive pig?s value from local feed in reducing feed cost and bringing economic benefit to the farmer in rural area and growth performance experiment will be evaluated between control diet and the diet with protein-enriched cassava root for pig.
