The Hoey Kadan Wetland Management for Sustainability of Phonngam Village, Paksan District, Bolikhamxay Province
Hoey kadan wetland is in Phonngam Village, Paksan District, Borlikhamxay Province. People in village use Hoey kadan as a source for their livelihood, farming and fishing. However, the condition of Hoey kadan has changed due to there is no rule and or any regulation to control the use of resources and it seems too risky of losing resources in near future like number of fish and aquatic lives will be declined due to unregulated management; the number of bird species may disappear or extinct due to habitat invaders; encroachment in the settlement due to the lack of clear surveying and demarcation of water boundaries; the use of chemicals in agriculture land for farming during the rainy season and crops during the dry season. The project aims at increasing local people?s awareness and be ownership on sustainable natural resources and wetland management, especially in the Hoey Kadan wetland, as population growth and resource utilization are now doubling which cause to community resources facing problem, by survey and demarcation of fish conservation zone; survey of bird and fish species for creating database; to create the legislation and regulations of fish conservation zone; and to sharing the technical knowledge with career promotion awareness raising for community-based management of natural resources.
