Wild tea forest?s soil improvement affected by agriculture transition in Phoukhoun District, Luangprabang province, Lao PDR

Nearly 90 percent of Phounkhoun district geography is highly mountainous land with cold weather throughout the year, wild tea forest are found on the mountains. In the past, wild tea forest covered nearly 100 hectares, however land use for agriculture areas are limited duo to the local population growth, this makes wild tea forest has been deforested for agricultural purposs. Phoukhoun district now considers tea cultivation as a priority for diversification of the agriculture to be a product which is helping local community to gain the income, to decrease slash-and-burn forest for shifting agriculture. Conservation wild tea forest will be engaging local people to be owner by guideline them to understand on the value chain of wild tea and it can be an income to their family. The project will conduct in 3 villages (Ban Luk Ha, Ban Phakeo and Ban Longmieng) in Phounkhou district, Luangprbang province and the aims is to improve soil property, conservation wild tea plant that is covered nearly 54 hectares in the forest (?the ancient trees?) for a right technique of harvest. Moreover, project will provide some training courses to the community on how to process the tea to be a local product for selling to the traders and or make tea product for internal and in neighboring markets supply.
